Loughborough University swimmer Julia Beckett has announed her retirement from the sport after achieving her dream of representing Great Britain at the Olympic Games in Beijing. During her time at Loughborough Julia successfully combined her academic studies(completing her Sports and Exercise Sciences degree in the summer of 2008) with the training commitments of an International swimmer. Julia was a very important part of the Loughborough Swimming team successfully helping the team to compete at the highest level domestically and realising her International swimming dreams when she won her first Silver medal as part of England Womens 4 x 200 Freestyle relay team at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. In 2008 she went on to compete at her first Olympic games in the 4 x 100 Freestyle relay and also won a Bronze medal as part of the 4 x 100 Freestyle relay team at the World SC Championships held in Manchester. Everyone at Loughborough Swimming wishes Julia well in the future as she heads towards new ventures |
