On the first morning of the European SC Championships in Rijeka, Croatia, Loughborough swimmers have been in blistering form. Elizabeth Simmonds went through to this evenings semi finals of the 100m backstroke in a British Record time of 57.85. Melanie Nocher was in equally record breaking form in the 100m backstroke swimming 1:00.42 to set a new Irish record.
In addition to the girls, Joe Roebuck just missed out on a final place in the 200m IM swimming a new personal best and All Time Top 5 time of 1:57.35. Matthew Bowe equalled his lifetime best performance of 51.95 in the 100m fly to gain a place in tonight's semi finals. James Gibson who returned to form last week at the French Nationals carried his form through to swim a swift 58.26 in the 100m breast, qualifying in 2nd place going into this evenings semi finals.
Craig Gibbons and Daniel Fogg set new lifetime bests respectively with Craig swimming 22.27 for the 50m free and Daniel 3:51.33 for the 400m free. James Gibson joined by Loughborough team mate Ben Hockin finished off his mornings swimming by joining forces with Marco Loughran and Todd Cooper to set a new British Record of 1:34.81 for the 4 x 50 Medley Relay.
This was a great mornings swimming from all of the Loughborough swimmers with 3 National Records, 2 Club Records and 5 All Time Top 5 times. |
