The second morning at the European SC in Rijeka, Croatia produced even more records for Loughborough Swimmers. Matthew Bowe (Great Britain) and Loughborough graduate Donal O'Neill (Ireland) led the morning off with a personal best time and an Irish Record in the 50m back. Matt qualifying for tonight's semi finals in 24.59 and Donal just missing out on a semi final place but setting a new Irish Record time of 25.05. He had previously set the record four years ago before going into International retirement.
Joe Roebuck (left) then produced the swim of his life to knock six seconds off his personal best time to reach tonight's final of the 400IM in a time of 4:08.94.
This was followed by the much anticipated event of the morning programme, the men's 100 free. All three Loughborough swimmers produced lifetime best performances with newly arrived to the Loughborough programme Ben Hockin swimming 47.71 to break the current British Record held since 2003 by Loughborough graduate Chris Cozens. Ross Davenport also qualified for tonight's semi finals along with Ben recording a time of 48.05, with Craig Gibbons just missing out despite swimming a very fast 48.12.
Finishing off the morning programme Elizabeth Simmonds was part of the Great Britain's women's 4 x 50 free relay team which qualified in eight place for tonight's final. Melanie Nocher also took part in the Irish relay team swimming a 25.45 leg as part of new Irish Record. |
