Elizabeth Simmonds started the third morning of competition off at the European SC by eclipsing her 50m back British Record set earlier in the year at the World SC in Manchester by posting a blistering 27.25. Elizabeth was followed into the pool by James Gibson who secured a bronze in the 100m breaststroke last night in a new lifetime best and new British Record. This morning he wasn't as sharp but still posted a time of 27.32 to make it through to tonight's semi finals. Donal O'Neill a Loughborough graduate who retired from the sport four years ago and only came back to the sport three months ago followed his Irish Record in the 50m back yesterday by smashing and setting a new Irish Record in 100m back in a time of 53.60. Matthew Bowe in the same event was half a second of his lifetime best posting a time of 53.37. Joe Roebuck moved on from posting two lifetime best times and securing an impressive 5th place in the 400IM final yesterday by this morning setting a new Loughborough club record in the 200m fly. In doing so Joe also qualified for tonight's final in 6th place. To finish off the mornings swimming for Loughborough, Daniel Fogg swam a credible performance in the 1500m free finishing in a time of 15:09.19. |
