Loughborough swimmers served up some fine festive fayre at the City of Leeds Christmas Cracker Meet. Olympians Liam Tancock and Lizzie Simmonds dominated the 50m skins competitions winning most of the rounds and emerging as outright winners; Liam taking the butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke skins with Lizzie taking the butterfly and backstroke events. Joe Roebuck, fresh from his performances at the European Short Course Championships, utilized his endurance fly to take the 50m fly skins and then put in a fine display to take the 200m butterfly title in 1:59.65 to lift the Top Senior Male Swimmers of the Meet Award. Olympic medallist, Joanne Jackson, blew away the cobwebs and opened her long course account with victories in the 200m freestyle(2:01.40) and 200 butterfly(2:15.98) and went on to take silver in the 100m butterfly. Joanne's 200m freestyle swim gave her the Top Senior Female Swimmer of the Meet Award. Kate Haywood looked impressive as she powered her way to victory in the 100m breaststroke(1:09.65) and went onto win the 50m skins with an outstanding 32.58. Scott Hathaway took the 100m & 200m backstroke events; his 2:02.60 in the latter putting him in a strong position to challenge for a major position at next years World Trials. Loughborough Gold also came from Kate Weaver(left) in the 100m freestyle, Matt Bowe 100m butterfly, Iain Scanlon 100m breaststroke, James Lovatt 200m individual medley and James Tait(right) 100m breaststroke and Rachel Lefley 100m backstroke.
