Jo Jackson On Fire at Burns Meet Loughborough Olympic bronze medallist, Joanne Jackson, was “on fire” at the Burns Swim Meet held in Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
Swimming in the 400m freestyle, Jo set a blistering pace to take the title in a University Record and World Class time of 4:04.66; this time being only a fraction outside her medal winning swim in Beijing. She went on to take the 200m butterfly and 100m freestyle titles. Teammate, Caitlin McClatchey, made a welcome return to form over the 400m to take silver in 4:11.08. Commonwealth silver medallist, Amy Smith, looked impressive as she sprinted to victory in the 50m freestyle in 26.27 and took silver in the 100m freestyle with an outstanding early season performance of 56.76. These swims gave her enough points to finish 2nd= in the Top Female Swimmer rankings. Irish Olympian, Melanie Nocher, demonstrated her class by taking the 200m backstroke title in 2:14.57 whilst in the men’s events gold medal winning performances came from Matt Bowe in the 100m butterfly ( 54.24),Craig Gibbons in the 50m freestyle (22.97) and Scott Hathaway in the 200m backstroke ( 2:05.40) Other Loughborough medal winning performances were: SILVER Sophie Casson 200m freestyle Scott Hathaway 50m/100m Backstroke BRONZE Kate Hutchinson 200m Breaststroke James Lovatt 200m Backstroke Chris Watkinson 50m Breaststroke Dean Milwain 200m Freestyle |
