Loughborough swimmers lit up the pool on the opening day of competition at the World Swimming Trials in Sheffield. Joanne Jackson stole the show after an epic tussle with double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Addlington (Nova) saw her emerge victorious in an amazing World Record time of 4:00.69. Both swimmers brought the crowd to their feet as they swam head to head throughout the 8 lap race. However it was Jackson who rode the wave of the famous Loughborough team support down the final 50m to clinch victory; both swimmers swimming within the old World Record. Not to be outdone Olympic Silver medallist David Davies smashed the British Record for the 400m freestyle by over two seconds with an impressive time of 3:45.24. Davies led from the outset and stamped his authority on the race to finish five seconds clear of his nearest rival. Coach Kevin Renshaw who predicted three weeks ago that both swimmers would be on record breaking form said "I am delighted with the performances tonight from these two outstanding swimmers who demonstrate outstanding commitment on a daily basis"
