| Loughborough Swimmers Pack into Finals & Semi-Finals |

Loughborough swimmers will feature in a host of finals and semi-finals on the second day of competition at the World Trials. Fran Halsall narrowly missed the British Record in the semi-finals of the women's 50m freestyle when she qualified fastest for the final in 24.75. Amy Smith also recorded a lifetime best of 25.76 to qualify as third fastest. In the same event Loughborough newcomer Kate Weaver sprinted to a lifetime best of 26.70. Fran also goes in the final of women's 100m butterfy where she currently occupies second place.
World Short Course Champion Liam Tancock qualified fastest for the 100m backstroke final in 54.36. James Lovatt after recording an impressive lifetime best of 56.81 qualified for his first ever senior National final. Rachel Lefley qualified for the women's 100m backstroke final after two impressive swims saw her leave the pool in a lifetime best of 1:03.04. The fastest qualifier for this event is Loughborough Olympic finalist Lizzie Simmonds who comfortably cruised through with a 1:01.06.
European Short Course finalist Joe Roebuck eased through to the 200m butterfly final in third spot with a 1:59.02 while Kate Hutchinson swam to a lifetime best in the 200m medley with a 2:20.44.
Three Loughborough breaststrokers go into tonights semi-finals, James Gibson, the fastest qualifier in 1:01.70, will be joined by Chris Watkinson (1:03.43) & Adam Freundlich (1:04.24). In the women's 100m breaststroke Kate Haywood looked impressive as she destroyed the field with a 1:09.28 to secure 1st spot in tonight's semi-final.
James Lovatt raced to a significant lifetime best performance of 2:06.81 to gain a place in tonight's 200m medley semi-final.
Joanne Jackson, fresh from her World Record breaking exploits, confirmed her form to qualify as fastest for the women's 200m freestyle semi-final in a 1:58.23. Caitlin McClatchey fills second spot with a 1:59.83 while Amy Smith (2:02.18) and Sophie Casson (2:02.97) will also appear. David Davies demonstrated his new found speed to out swim his rivals and claim top spot for tonight's 200m free semi-finals with a 1:48.11; he will be joined by other Loughborough swimmers Ross davenport (1:48.66), Robert Bale (1:49.19), & Ben Hockin (1:50.27). |
