Sophie Casson and Daniel Fogg placed 4th in their respective 10km races at the European Open Water Swimming Cup held in Eilat, Israel. Casson, swimming in her first ever open water race, was in the leading pack of four throughout the whole race and was in third place leading into the closing stages. However, lack of experience showed as she thought there was another lap to go and failed to swim down the finishing funnel. Despite doing a quick U Turn valuable time was lost and a placing sacrificed. With mixed emotions she commented " I'm gutted not to have made the podium but experience counts for everything in this event. I definitely have a future in Open Water and I am so proud at having represented Great Britain." Daniel Fogg was involved in a four man tussle for much of the gruelling 10km race;the finish coming down to a scramble for the touchpad. Less than one second separated the first four places and unfortunately Fogg was on the back end of that. However, he will have secured his place in the Great Britain Team which will compete at the World Championships in Rome this summer.
Well Done Sophie and Dan!! |
