Olympic finalist and British Record Holder, Lizzie Simmonds, stormed to victory and a new meet record of 2:09.65 in the 200m backstroke on Day 2 of the Mare Nostrum Meet in Canet. Utilising her superior pacing and exceptional turns, Lizzie looked impressive as she destroyed the field with her first sub 2:10 swim of the year.
Loughborough teammate Francesca Halsall, better known for her freestyle prowess, turned her hand to butterfly with devastating effect to clinch bronze in a star studded 100m butterfly final; her time being 58.57 Ross Davenport, bronze medallist from the Barcelona Mare Nostrum, swam close to his lifetime best in the 200m freestyle to place 3rd in 1:47.80.
