Loughborough swimmers produced outstanding swimming on the final day of the Canet Mare Nostrum Meet to take a host of silver medals. Francesca Halsall produced a blistering 100m freestyle of 53.89 to take silver and set a new University Record. The time missed her own British Record by a mere eight one hundredths of a second and sends out a clear message that Fran is swimming fast seven weeks out from the World Championships.
Lizzie Simmonds, fresh from her victory in the 200m backstroke, demonstrated her consistent form with a 1:00.91 100m backstroke to add silver to her previous gold. Ross Davenport, Commonwealth Champion and better known for his 100m/200m freestyle prowess, was involved in a head to head tussle during the 8 lap 400m freestyle event; a fingertip finish and two one hundredths deniying him the gold. However, his time of 3:52.09 was only three tenths shy of his lifetime best which was set in 2007. Liam Tancock continued the medal winning trail with silver in the 100m backstroke (55.27) This group will remain on training camp in Canet under the direction of Coach Ben Titley before returning bronzed and ready for more Fast Swimming at the Scottish Nationals in Glasgow.
