Scottish Nationals Day 1 & 2
26th June 2009

Day 1
Loughborough swimmers produced impressive performances on the opening day at the Scottish National Championships in Glasgow. Daniel Fogg dominated the final of the 1500m freestyle and despite being cheered on throughout the 30 lap race by his Loughborough teammates he was unable to book his place on the world championship team; his winning time of 15:08.53 being 6 tenths shy of the required standard. However Daniel will compete at the world open water championships over 10k.
Medals fast and strong during the opening finals session with Grant Turner and Ben Hockin taking silver and bronze in the 100m freestyle   and Lizzie Simmonds securing silver in the 50m backstroke. Caitlin McClatchey produced a blistering final 50m in the 200m freestyle to record a time of 1:58.49 and secure a bronze medal and the Scottish National title.

Day 2
Loughborough secured a golden hat trick on day 2 of the competition, David Davies, looked impressive as he negatively split the 400m freestyle to take gold in 3:48.69 while Fran Halsall sprinted to glory in the 50m freestyle with Amy Smith also making the podium in bronze medal winning position. Joe Roebuck confirmed his selection for the world championships with a gold medal winning swim in the 200m butterfly(1:58.25)
Butterfly specialist Matthew Bowe turned his hand to the 100m backstroke and produced an outstanding swim of 54.87 to clinch bronze. Rachel Lefley caught the eye of the World University Games selectors with a bronze medal performance of 2:12.43 in the women's 200m backstroke.
World 400m freestyle record holder(pictured), Joanne Jackson, swam stroke for stroke with Olympic gold medallist, Rebecca Addlington in the 800m freestyle. Unrested and unshaved, Joanne produced a world class time of 8:17.81 to take silver.
