Loughborough swimmer David Davies, set the pool a light tonight with a British record in the 800m freestyle in a time of 7:50.49. Dave led from the start to complete a Loughborough 1-2 with training partner Daniel Fogg setting a new English record time of 8:00.18. David's record breaking swim had been proceeded by Joe Roebuck securing another individual swim at the World Championships next month by winning the 200IM. In a closely fought swim Joe piped Lewis Smith from Stirling by 1 hundredth of second taking the title in a time of 2:00.92 with Liam Tancock taking third place. In other events Craig Gibbons swam a new University record time of 22.49 to secure a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle and Scott Hathaway also secured a Bronze medal in the 200m backstroke in a new personal best time of 2:01.37. Tomorrow(Sunday) is the last day of the championships with more swimmers trying to secure their places not only on the World Championships team but also the World University team.
