Matthew Bowe dug deep in the final of the 100m butterfly at the World University Games in Belgrade but an extra long taper period took it's toll and he had to be content with a 6th place finish. After swimming to a lifetime best and new university record in Glasgow the previous week Matt tried to hold taper into the World University Games. However, despite posting his best series of swims in one swim meet, he just ran out of steam in his final race ..his time of 52.94 being a slightly shy of his semi final time. Head Coach of the Team, Steve Bayley said "Matt has put in some outstanding swims over the past 2 weeks and this race was just one race too far. We can now look forward to rebuilding fitness & speed as we prepare for the Commonwealth Games in 2010"
