Halsall Smashes 100m Free British Record
26th July 2009

Loughborough swimmer Fran Halsall,(pictured) leading off the British team 4 x 100 free relay smashed her own British Record. Her previous time of 53.81 set at the Beijing Olympics has now been reduced to 53.02. Her amazing leading leg assured Caitlin McClatchey clear water on the second leg. She produced a split of 54.98 to keep the team out front. Katherine Wyld(Nova) 54.80 then kept the team in the first three places handing over to Loughborough's Amy Smith who scorched through in a time of 54.22 to set a new British record time of 3:37.02 placing them 6th into tonight's final.
Irish 200m backstroke record holder, Melanie Nocher, started her Championships off for Ireland as part of the women's 4 x 100 free team. She produced a spirited performance on the final leg to split 57.10.
Liam Tancock and Ross Davenport formed part of the men's 4 x 100 free team which broke the British record, setting a time of 3:11.62 to smash the previous best of 3:12.87 set in Beijing. Brown led the lead of in 49.01, Burnett 47.57, Tancock 47.74 and Davenport 47.30. This British record time placed them third into tonight's final.

Tonight is the night to settle in front of your television and support the Loughborough swimmers and the GB team.
