Loughborough swimmers have now completed day 1 at the National Youth and Senior Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield. Rachel Lefley led the charge in the finals on day 1 with a superb performance in the 200m back. Rachel who has only recently returned from GB duty at the World University Games in Serbia turned in a very strong performance to take the title from Emma Smithurst(Manchester) in a time of 2:12.85. Erin Jeffery increased the Loughborough medal count by winning a bronze in the women's senior 400IM final in a time of 4:51.71. Her time was a new personal best by nearly a second. Other swimmers in action in the finals section included James Lovatt(56.64) and Joe Canlan Shaw (57.74) who finished in 5th & 8th place respectively in the men's 100m back. Chris Watkinson turned on the power in the men's 100m breast to finish in a time of 1:02.95. In the heats the stand out performance of the day went to Simon Churchman who took over four seconds of his lifetime best in the men's 400m free. Aeronautical Engineering student Simon finished in a time of 4:01.39.
