Fast Swimming was the order of the day as Loughborough swimmers took to the water on the opening day of the British Grand Prix in Leeds. Coming off a series of long course meets, the swimmers took advantage of the short course pool to power their way between the walls. World silver medallist, Fran Halsall, smashed the British record to win the 100m freestyle; her time of 51.79 being only 0.09 shy of the World record. Teammate, Lizzie Simmonds, also rewrote the record books with an impressive display of speed in the 100m backstroke; her silver medal winning time of 57.18 being a new British record. Ross Davenport swam a well paced race to lift the 400m freestyle title in an English record of 3:40.32; his time being 1 tenth outside the British record. Joe Roebuck, buoyed by his semi final appearance at the recent World Championships, dominated the 200m IM to set a huge lifetime best of 1:54.90. Welsh International, Tom Laxton, broke the Welsh record twice in the 100m butterfly with a 54.72 in the heats and a 54.32 in the B final.
