Loughborough swimmers capped a hugely successful four days of swimming with more record breaking swims on the final day of the British Grand Prix help in Leeds. Ross Davenport, having set a new British Record of 1:43,35 in the morning heats of the 200m freestyle, swam a much better paced race in the evening finals to shave off another slice; his winning time being 1:43.05. Lizzie Simmonds was probably too controlled over the opening half of the 200m backstroke final, a final 50m surge giving her victory in 2:02.63 but denying her a new record time. Irish Olympian and backstroke specialist, Melanie Nocher, produced a fine effort in the final of the 200m freestyle to set a new irish Record of 1:57.91 while Erin Jeffiery took down the oldest club record on the books to when swimming to 4:45.00 in the 400m individual medley final. The Women's 4 x 100m Medley team faced tough opposition from the Canadian National Team and were unable to make it to the podium. However, a new British Record of 56.93 by Lizzie Simmonds on the lead off leg, plus fine swimming from Katie Raybould (1:10.46), Kirsty Armstrong (1:02.47) and Amy Smith (53.68) saw the team establish a new British Club Team Record of 4:03.54. The final record of the evening came from Ben Hockin who sprinted to a 23.77 in the 50m butterfly to set a new university mark. The Loughborough team performances at this meet were truly outstanding with all swimmers setting lifetime best times. And to celebrate the end of an incredible season the team met up for social activities on their return to Loughborough.....Well deserved too! Fast Swimming!..We Love It!! |
