Loughborough swimmers took to the water last night to participate in the BIG 50 Challenge. Every swimmer in the team was required to swim 50m Fly, 50m Fly kick underwater, 50m back, 50m breast, 50m free & 100m IM; their times scoring points out of 1000 for each event. World record holder and last year's winner, Liam Tancock, faced tough opposition from fellow Olympian Ben Hockin and World semi finalist Joe Roebuck. Tancock opened the proceedings with a 24.56 50m butterfly and followed this with an impressive 23.78 for underwater kick. Hockin matched him with a 1050 point score in the 50m back but Tancock stole the show with a 50 point edge in the 50m breast. Tancock went on to retain his BIG 50 titles with 6250 points, Hockin taking 2nd with 6150 points and Roebuck 3rd with 5600 points. The women's section also saw outstanding competition with silver medallist Francesca Halsall, Olympian Melanie Nocher and youth international Louisa Farrer Fisher vying for honours. Fran emerged as the outrigh winner with 5550 points, Melanie and Louisa finishing joint 2nd with 4400 points. A great session was had by all.
