Loughborough swimmers opened their 2009/10 account with some fine early season performances in he 17yrs+ section of the Lincoln Vulcans Open Mee

World Championship representatives Joe Roebuck, Amy Smith and Laurent Carnol all produced multi gold medal winning swims; Roebuck taking the 100m/200m butterfly & 200m IM, Smith the 50m/100m/200m & 400m freestyle and Carnol (recently arrived from Luxembourg) in the 100m & 200m breaststroke.

Katie Raybould and Kate Hutchinson took the 100m & 200m breaststoke titles respectively while Jade Barclay took the 100m & 200m butterfly titles. Jodie Le Resche and Catherine Pickthall finished 2nd & 3rd in the 100m butterfly while Kirsty Armstrong and Erin Jeffery replicated this in the 200m butterfly to give Loughborough a clean sweep on the women's butterfly events.

In the men's category Andy Bushell produced a fine series of freestyle events but it was in his specialist event, the 100m freestyle, where he struck gold. Joe Canlan Shaw produced a blistering back half to lift the 100m backstroke title while Andy Donaldson paced his way to victory in the 200m backstroke.

These gold medal winning swims, combined with 33 other podium finishes and a host of impressive swims, proved the team was on track for another fine year of FAST SWIMMING!
