Loughborough swimmers produced outstanding performances at the Midland Short Course Championships in Corby. Having missed this event for a number of years the team relished the opportunity to race short course and rode the wave of a medal winning bonanza. Scott Hathaway and Andy Bushell both completed golden hat tricks; Hathaway taking the 50m back (25.75), 100m back (55.20) and 200m back (1:56.81) with Bushell winning the 50m free (22.63) 100m free (50.04) and 50m fly (24.37) British Youth international, Kate Hutchinson, produced lifetime bests to win the100m breast (1:10.37) & 200m breast (2:30.20) while Katie Raybould sprinted to 32.62 to win the 50m breasts and complete a breaststroke clean sweep for the Loughborough team. Great Britain Senior International, Sophie Casson, swam well paced races to win the 400m & 800m freestyle events in 4:13.62 & 8:37.60 respectively. Kate Weaver reaped the benefits of her new weights programme when powering her way to 26.01 50m free and a 56.05 100m free. Jade Barclay, also recently incorporating a lifting programme, powered her way to gold and a lifetime best of 1:01.51 plus silver and another best of 2:11.74 in the 200m butterfly. Rachel Lefley utilised her superior technique and turning skills to strike gold in the 50m back (28.05) and 200m back (2:08.51) Scottish Internationals Andy Donaldson and Iain Scanlon also hit the gold medal winning trail; Donaldson smoking the 200m free from the outside lane (1:48.92) and Scanlon digging deep over the final 5m to clinch the 100m IM title in 57.93. Loughborough newcomers Matthew Breckon, Jodie Le Resche and Laurent Carnol looked impressive as they made the top slot podium place; Breckon taking the 400m free (3:56.63), Le Resche the 50m fly (27.46) and Carnol the 100m & 200m breast. The Men's and Women's teams produced a Loughborough clean sweep of Medley and Freestyle relays while these golden swims plus a host of medal winning performances plus final placings saw Loughborough dominate the result sheets.
