On the first night of racing at the BUCS SC Championships in Sheffield, Sophie Casson (pictured) doubled up in the women's 800 & 1500m. Swimming the 800m first Sophie swam a very controlled race in the penultimate heat to cruise to victory in a time of 8:34.47. Forty five minutes later she entered the competition pool again to take part in the women's 1500m. Going up against Loughborough swimmer Matthew Breckon she surpassed all expectations by smashing the BUCS 1500m record in a time of 16:38.17.Hazel Colbourne also competing in the women's 1500m finished in third place in a time of 17.42.95.
In the women's 800m free, Erin Jeffery, achieved a life time best swimming a time of 8:54.17. Simon Churchman & Andrew Donaldson competed in the men's 800m free finishing 6th and 8th respectively in times of 8:19.23 & 8:23.73.
Both the Men's and Women's 4 x 50 free relays safely made it through to tonight's finals.
