Last night at the BUCS Championships in Sheffield, Loughborough swimmers produced some outstanding performances to lead the point's tables at the end of the second day. Several BUCS records fell as Loughborough's swimmers stormed the pool. World record holder, Liam Tancock, sprinted to victory in the 50m back and free; Andy Bushell taking a silver in the 50m free and James Lovatt taking silver in the 50m back, making a Loughborough clean sweep. Matthew Bowe came out of semi retirement to clinch the 100m fly title in 52.18. Rachel Lefley raced to a new BUCS record of 2:07.73 in the women's 200m back. Lefley also gained silver in the 50m back with her teammate Rebecca Jenkins taking bronze in the 50m and 200m back. Laurent Carnol swam a superbly paced race in the 200m breast to set a new Luxembourg National record of 2:10.51 to take gold; his time was also a BUCS record. Erin Jeffery and Kate Hutchinson battled it out in the women's 400m IM, Jeffery taking gold in 4:45.11 and Hutchinson silver in 4:46.20. Fresh from his World cup success in Stockholm, Joe Roebuck, dominated the men's 400m IM, to set a new BUCS record in 4:08.38. The men's and women's freestyle relay teams were also on golden form; the men's team of Liam Tancock, Matt Bowe, Ben Hockin & Andy Bushell set a new BUCS record of 1:28.52 and the women's relay of Rachel Bowen, Kate Weaver, Jodie Le Resche & Caitlin McClatchey secured an outstanding win.
