16th November 2009

Outstanding team swims on the final day of competition at the British Universities National Short Course Championships saw Loughborough retain their Men's,Women's and Overall Team titles.

World semi finalist, Joe Roebuck, swam a well paced to race to dominate the 200m butterfly while Jade Barclay raced to bronze in the women's 200m butterfly.

Caitlin McClatchey and Kate Weaver took silver and bronze in the women's 100m freestyle; Ben Hockin and Andy Bushell following this with a superb clean sweep in the men's 100m freestyle, Hockin's time of 48.33 being a new BUCS record. Laurent Carnol, fresh from his record breaking spree in the 200m breaststroke, powered his way to gold in the 100m breaststroke with Katie Raybould taking bronze in the respective women's event.

Kate Hutchinson swam to a huge lifetime best and BUCS record of 2:13.50 in the women's 200m individual medley but a late charge by Joe Roebuck in the men's event wasnt enough to overhaul Lewis Smith (Stirling).

Rachel Lefley and Becky Jenkins continued to make the podium in the backstroke events by finishing 2nd & 3rd respectively in the women's 100m event while world record holder Liam Tancock put in a superb final 25m to take the men's title; Andy Donaldson taking bronze.
