Lizzie smashed the European 200m backstroke record when racing to a convincing win on the opening day of the FINA World Cup in Singapore. Leading from the start, Lizzie dominated the race, winning by over 3 seconds and setting a impressive new mark of 2:01.48. Less than 30minutes later Lizzie was back in the pool for the final of the women's 200m IM where she set a new English record of 2:08.61 to finish 5th. World silver medallist, Francesca Halsall, was also in fine podium form; racing to bronze and a lifetime best of 1:54.84 in the 200m freestyle and 56.91 in the 100m butterfly to take silver. Ross Davenport placed 4th in the men's 400m freestyle in 3:41.49; marginally outside his lifetime best performance. A great start to the meet... Bring on Day 2!!! |
