Loughborough student Liam Tancock has reached the shortlist for the Sports Personality of the Year gong at the BBC East Midlands Sports Awards taking place at Loughborough University next Thursday (3 December).
World champion Liam Tancock has been named in the final five for the prestigious award which is decided by a public text vote. The pair join Lizzie Naeve, former College student and World champion boxer Carl Froch, Nottinghamshire jockey Hayley Turner and England cricketer Stuart Broad on the final shortlist.
Liam reaffirmed his position as world number one during an incredible 2009 that saw him crowned World Champion in the 50m Backstroke in a new world record time.
One week later the Loughborough 2012 sports scholar was just off the short course world record in the same event; setting new European, Commonwealth and British records at the British Gas Grand Prix in Leeds.
