Joe Roebuck set a new British & Commonwealth record of 4:01.63 in the 400m Individual Medley final at the European Short Course Championships in Istanbul but had to be content with a 4th place finish. His goal of a podium finish was thwarted when his swimsuit split prior to the start but despite this malfunction Roebuck maintained his focus to race competitively. Ian Armiger (Director of Swimming) said "We are obviously disappointed that something out of our control prevented Joe from taking a medal. However,Joe gave it a good crack and had a strong back end to the race.....he certainly impressed the turn judges!" Amy Smith led off the women's 4 x 50m freestyle relay in blistering style with a lifetime best of 24.65; her teammates Katherine Wylde, Rebecca Turner and and Jessica Sylvester finishing off to secure a 6th place finish for the Great Britain Team. More FAST SWIMMING to come!!! |
