A great start for Loughborough swimming last night at the BUCS LC in Sheffield. In the Men and Women's 800m and 1500m free events Loughborough swimmers grabbed podium places to secure valuable points for the team.
James Gibson led the charge in the men's 800m free missing first place by 4 tenths of a second eventually finishing second in a time of 8:22.48. Greg Bird swimming in his first BUCS event achieved a new PB in finishing fourth in a time of 8:35.37. Louisa Farrer Fisher continued the Loughborough success winning the Women's 800m free in a time of 8:43.40 & Kim Bell finishing fourth in a time of 9:40.53.
In the 1500m free Matthew Breckon produced a solid swim to come fourth in a time of 16:25.26. 400 IM specialist Erin Jeffery turned her hand to the 1500m free producing an excellent performance to win the event in a time of 17:26.18. Her teammate Hazel Colbourne also secured a podium place with another fine swim finishing third in a time of 17:39.83.
The Men's and Women's 4 x 100 free relay's progressed through safely to this evening finals. He highlight was Rachael Bowen producing a lifetime best time of 59.56 leading off the women's relay.
Today events commence at 9:30 with two sessions of heats. Finals of todays events will start at 6pm.
