The second day at BUCS LC in Sheffield produced some very fine swimming throughout the whole three sessions. Loughborough swimmers achieved some very credible heat swims during the first two sessions of the day to progress through to the evening finals.
In the morning heats and evening finals Kate Hutchinson and Elizabeth Simmonds set four new University records between them. Kate breaking the records in the 400mIM and 200m breast and Lizzie setting new marks in the 50m and 200m Back. Lizzie's time in the 200m was only three tenths of second away from the British record.
The evening finals started with a 1-2 performance women's 200m free with Caitlin McClatchy (1:59.12) & Louisa Farrer Fisher (2:01.29), this was followed by an outstanding silver medal swim by Andy Donaldson in the men's 200m free in (1:52.81). Liam Tancock set a new BUCS record of (25.01) to win the 50m back title; Matt Bowe taking silver in (27.14). In the corresponding women's event Rachel Lefley sprinted to silver with (29.81). Michael Dawson swam an excellent to clinch silver in the men's 50m breast with a (29.93). Rachel Lefley and Melanie Nocher made it a Loughborough 1-2 in the 200m backstroke, Rachel striked for gold in 2:13.10 and Melanie taking silver in 2:16.19. In the men's 200m back, Joe Canlan Shaw and James Lovatt battled it out with Ryan Bennett (Stirling); a finger tip finish seeing Joe Canlan Shaw taking silver in (2:05.80) and Lovatt bronze in(2:05.97). Liam Tancock to victory in the 50m free with (23.66), Andy Bushell taking Bronze in (23.74). Olympian Laurent Carnol paced his way to victory in the 200m breast (2:15.15) while Kate Hutchinson set a new University record of 2:30.49 to take the women's 200m breast; Emma White took bronze in (2:38.80)
Loughborough finished the night winning both the men's and women's 4 x 100 free victories.
