Daniel Fogg and Sophie Casson produced fine performances when representing Great Britain in the Mid Mar Mile in Durban, South Africa.

The race, a mass participation event similar to our city centre marathons, attracted 15,000 entrants; 3,000 of which fell into the elite category.

Daniel Fogg stayed clear of the pack and emergerd from the water in first place, but the short run to the finish post cost him dearly as he was pushed over and had to settle for second place.

Sophie Casson, still relatively inexperienced in open water swimming, took a good line in the race to cross the finish line in 5th place.

Both swimmers now move on to compete in an elite 10km race.
