The Loughborough party began on Day 2 of of the Commonwealth Trials as the swimmers rode the wave of success and were spurred on by the beat of the team drums in the stands. Amy Smith opened the proceedings with a blistering display of power and speed to lift the 50m butterfly title in 26.88; a 1.5 second improvement on her lifetime best. Jodie Le Resche placed 9th in the final with 28.71. Scott Hatheway, better known as a 200m swimmer, sprinted to silver in the 50m backstroke in a lifetime best of 26.20; James Lovatt placing 5th (26,91) and Joe Canlan Shaw 9th (27.36) Loughborough newcomer, Lowri Tynan, looked impressive as she took bronze in the 50m breaststroke (31.96) with Kate Weaver taking 10th place ( 33.25) Tom Laxton made it through to the final of the 50m butterfly final (25.12) with Lizzie Simmonds and Rachel Lefley progressing nicely to the 100m backstroke final. Robert Bale secured Loughborough second British title of the night with a superbly paced 200m freestyle (1:47.82) and Ross Davenport completed a podium double by taking bronze in 1:48.06. Francesca Halsall (54.98), Amy Smith (55.13) and Caitlin McClatchey (56.38) qualified for the final of the women's 100m freestyle. Ian Armiger (Director of Swimming) said, " We've started to fire up.
