Swimmers Excel at Rotherham Meet
17th May 2010

Loughborough swimmers produced impressive early cycle performances when they opened their account at the Rotherham Metro Open Meet held in Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

Luxembourg Olympian, Laurent Carnol. produced golden swims in the 200m IM, 400m IM and 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke while Scott Hathaway scored a golden double in the 100m & 200m backstroke events; his time of 2:04.95 in the 200m event giving him enough points to secure the Top Male Swimmer Award.

Andrew Donaldson (100m freestyle), David Ashton (50m Free), Tom Laxton (50m butterfly) and James Lovatt (100m butterfly) were all title winners in the men's 17yrs+ category.

GB International, Rachel Lefley, powered her way to gold in the 50m, 100m backstroke and 50m, 100m freestyles while Kate Hutchinson dipped into the magic waters to take the 200m breaststroke and 400m IM. Jodie Le Resche and Tilly Gray completed a clean sweep of the butterfly events; Jodie taking the 50m fly and Tilly the 100m & 200m fly.

Katie Raybould looked impressive as she took the 50m & 100m breaststroke titles whilst Emma White clinched the 100m title. Jade Barclay, after medal winning swims in the butterfly events, overcame a broken toe to race to victory in the 200m freestyle.

Irish Olympian, Melanie Nocher, made a welcome return to form to take the 200m backstroke title; her time of 2:13,55 being a European Qualifying Time and also being enough to secure the Top Female Swimmer Award.

In addition to these gold medal winning swims the Loughborough Team also took 25 silver and 19 bronze to make a significant impact on the meet.

Great job!!
