On the second day of the Irish Open Championships in Dublin, Loughborough and Ards man Michael Dawson took on fellow Irishman Barry Murphy (Aer Lingus), they fought out for the touch in the men’s 100m breaststroke senior final, after Murphy who led for most of the race was overtaken by Dawson in the last 10 metres, to get his hands on the wall first and to win the title in 1.03.78 – marginally missing out on qualification for the Commonwealth Games by one tenth of a second.
