Loughborough's Elizabeth Simmonds took the European title on the 2nd day of competition in Budapest.

Lizzie took the race out fast (1:01.86) over the first 100m to open a substantial gap on her arch rivals. Digging deep down the final 50m, she held off a fast finishing Gemma Spofforth to take gold in a superb 2:07.04.

On her tactics Lizzie said " I knew the way I was swimming races at the moment I had to go out and give it everything from the start. I had to get out there ahead of the field. It's the way I swim. I delighted with the win and to be crowned European Champion."
